What is obesity and how to overcome it

In the last twenty years, there was a significant increase in the number of obese adults and children in the United States. Recent studies have shown that more than 30% of all adults in US are obese. The shocking thing is the fact that more and more obese children and adolescents are suffering from diseases that are usually associated with adults and seniors.

The good side about this is that losing 5-10% of overall weight can mean a significant improvement, especially in the early age.

Obesity can be easily identified, even without going to the doctor. Thanks to the BMI calculator (there are thousands of them online) you can know immediately in which category you belong – from normal weight to extremely obese. BMI shows how much body fat by simply calculating two parameters – your height and your weight. However, keep in mind that BMI is not 100% correct. If you have extra belly fat, you have big chance to suffer from type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

What are the causes of obesity?

Obesity is a result of two things – calorie intake and calorie burn. Of course, it is not that simple, but that is the core of the problem. Unfortunately, not as much as it burns during workout and exercise.

First, you should make some choices about your diet – what are you going to eat, when and how much. Furthermore, your daily routine should incorporate: eating breakfast every morning, eating smaller portions, you shouldn’t skip meals, you should be as physically active as possible (lots of experts recommend at least one hour of activity every day), reduce stress, avoid sodas, drink lots of water, drink tea, avoid intake of sugar and eat lots of vegetables and lean proteins.

These are just some ideas that you should incorporate into your new lifestyle. Remember to find something that will motivate you to keep going (you can take photos of yourself on the first day or have a friend go on a fitness journey with you).
