Tips for beginner runners

Running is one of the greatest and one of the most popular exercises in the world. Every day millions and millions of people run and enjoy it! However, it is not easy to start running and there are many obstacles that one beginner runner must overcome in order to be able to include this exercises in their life.

If you are new to running and would like to call yourself a runner, we have gathered some tips that should help you get started:

Your pace is not important, at least in the beginning

It’s not all about speed when it comes to running. If you have just started and you have not done any other cardio exercises in a while, it would be a great idea to start slow and see how many minutes you can run or how many miles you can run. If you get tired, slow down and walk a little and continue running when you are ready.

Choose your running equipment carefully, especially shoes

Shoes are very important for running and while you may have a pair that “can do the job”, it would be the best if you could invest in some running shoes. In most of the stores you can find running shoes from $40, but make sure to find the right size!

Make yourself go running until it becomes a habit

It is believed that it takes around 21 days for something new to become a habit. This means that you have about 9 running sessions before it becomes a habit (9 sessions – 3 per week).

You are a runner

It doesn’t matter how fast you run or how many miles, you are already a runner and start calling yourself like that. This should be a great boost for your confidence and a great motivation for you to keep going further.

Patience is key

Don’t expect to run a marathon anytime soon, but this is not something that should worry you. Be patient and persistent and you will see results in the future.

Drink lots of water

Hydration is very important for your body and if you are planning on running seriously, make sure to drink lots of water throughout the day. There is a simple way to remind yourself to drink more water every day – just carry a small water bottle and leave it somewhere you can see it and you will easily remember to drink water.

Find someone to run with or join a group of runners

Everything is easier when it is done in a good company. Recently, running groups have gained lots of popularity and they are one of the easiest way to start running. There is always a leader of the group, that goes first and determines the pace and the route, so you don’t have to stress about these things.

Eat right

This is something that we have to mention, although you already know – you have to watch out what you eat in order to get the best results from your runs.
