Did you know that if you cut 500 calories from your daily intake or you burn 500 calories you will burn at least a pound every week? The best thing about it is that you can do it easily, without feeling deprived and feeling bad. Now, there are many strategies and since every person is different, make sure that you try out as many different ideas you can find – until you have your own strategy to lose weight.
We have gathered some of the proven ways to cut down 500 calories every day and written them in the list below:
Replace one food with another
One of the first things you can try is to replace one food with another. For example, if you eat English muffin instead of a bagel, you will cut 220 calories or if you eat turkey sausage instead of pork sausage you will cut 125 calories per piece. As you can see, you could cut a lot of calories, just by swapping your favorite foods for similar foods that have practically the same taste and texture.
In the last 20 years, according to experts we have completely lost out of our sight how big portions really should be. The problem is that, for example, when you eat in a restaurant – instead of eating one portion in a meal, you end up eating much more because they serve bigger meals. One example that many experts use is: 1 cup of granola has around 600 calories, while 1 cup of high-fiber cereal only have around 120.
Walk during the time for lunch
This is one awesome idea to try – if you walk during your lunch time for five days you can burn up to 500 calories extra! Furthermore, experts say that we should aim to make at least 10,000 steps every day (around 5 miles) so you should try to make at least that amount (if you don’t know whether you have made that many steps or not, you can always invest into a pedometer).
Chew your food slowly
One research has shown that women who chew at least 20 times before swallowing have eaten at least 70 calories less per meal! Furthermore, it takes at least 20 minutes for our body to realize it is full, if you eat more slowly you will be able to get to the point where you feel full, but not overeat.
Stop eating sweets every day
Most of use have problem when it comes to restricting sweets. There are many different things you can do to cut down on sweets – from not having them in the house at all or by completely swapping all sweets for healthier alternative – fruit.
Leave a little food on your plate
This is completely different from what our parents always told us – the idea is to leave around one quarter of our meal and by doing this we can cut up to 200 calories per meal – and three meals a day – means cutting down 600 calories!
