In last couple of years, we have been able to see more and more offices looking different than what an office was in the past – more colors, more open spaces and – gyms in the office building. Unfortunately, there are still millions and millions people that work in offices in all over the world, that are not working in offices like these and those who want to move more, have to think about new ways to add a few steps while attending their every day duties.
The problem is that latest researches have shown that we are not moving enough at work, which negatively affects both our physical and mental health. One of the solutions are the new walking work stations, which are quite expensive and unless you are going to buy one for yourself, the chances are low that your employer is going to buy it for you.
If you want to add some steps into your day at the office, here are some ideas that should help you:
Replace your standard with walking meeting
This is one of the most interesting ideas and it is one of the easiest – you just replace standard meetings in which everyone is sitting with walking meetings. This might seem odd to you, but did you know that some of the most successful businessmen had walking meetings – one of the most famous is Steve Jobs, who claimed that he is much more creative while walking and that he finds it much easier to find solution to problems during long walks.
Visit water cooler every hour
Water cooler is ideal place for you to go, if you want to add some steps while you’re in the office. For example, you can make it a goal that you visit the water cooler at least once in an hour – you will be walking more, while at the same time, making sure that your body is properly hydrated.
Pace while talking on the phone
This is something that should not be hard for most of the people – instead of sitting while talking on the phone, you can stand up and pace. There are two good reasons for this – first is that you will not be constantly sitting and the other is the fact that you are going to add more steps to your daily step count.
Use the stairs, instead of the elevator
One of the easiest and certainly the simplest tips on this list is this one – the idea is to use stairs instead of elevator. Depending on the amount of stairs, this may be difficult in the beginning, but there are many, many benefits. On average, a woman that weighs 135 pounds burns 40 calories for every five minutes on the stairs.
Be willing to help
Depending on your workplace, there might be lots of errands included. Now, people usually don’t like errands, but they might be a great way to add a significant number of steps to your daily step count.
