How to workout in the hot weather

Summer has finally come and while we all were looking forward to it, along came the heat. Depending on your location, you could be facing really high temperatures, which are not helpful for your workouts. According to one research, lots of people stop exercising in the summer because of the heat and instead of working on their body and losing weight, they actually gain weight and have to exercise in the colder weather.

If you want to avoid getting off track with your workouts, we have prepared some tips that should help you workout safely in the heat:

Don’t exercise between 10am-3pm

One of the first advices you can read or hear from anyone is to avoid going anywhere between 10am to 3pm. This is the time of the day when the heat is at its peak. Furthermore, if you are at home and you don’t have air conditioner you should avoid doing any workouts.

Exercise indoors

When you can’t exercise outside, the best idea is to do it indoors. Most of the gyms have air conditioners and they are ideal for working out. Experts say that there are two benefits of working out indoors when you can’t do it outside: first – you will have a very effective workout and second is that you will be able to put up with heat after the workout.

Did you know that lots of newer cardio machines (like exercise bikes, treadmills and elliptical cross trainers) come with built in fans? Thanks to this and many other new features, you could train inside, but feel like you’re outside.

Make sure to stay hydrated

One of the most important things when it comes to exercising in the heat wave is to always have full water bottle with you. Did you know that when you sweat, you lose not only water, but also important salt and electrolytes? This is just one more reason to drink water throughout the whole day. If you plan to exercise, make sure that you drink at least glass of water before you start and when you start, you should have one bottle of water near, so you can hydrate during workout.

Change your routine

As we have said before, many people stop exercising in the summer and if you want to continue exercising, but you feel you lack motivation, one of the best things you can do is to change your current workout by simply adding a new activity – like swimming or cycling. The good thing about exercises like these is that you can do it for longer periods with much fatigue.

Carefully choose what you are going to wear

This is something that many people forget – what you wear while you exercise in the summer is very important – and not just to look good while doing it – you have to choose clothes that are lighter and have bright colors (clothes in lighter color are great when it comes to reflecting heat). Furthermore, if you are going for a run in the sun, make sure to apply some sunscreen!
