Winter is coming and for most of us that means less outdoor activities and more time in the gym. However, according to the experts the winter is time when you should work on your body if you want to be prepared for the summer, however, they also say that most of the people stop exercising and gain weight easily.
If you want to make sure that all that hard work does not go to waste, you don’t have to do anything special, but you might want to change your routine a little bit – but on the long run you will be doing yourself a great favor. Just remember – taking just one month break will make it much harder for you to get back on track.
Here are some strategies to help you stay in shape over the winter:
Even though it is cold outside and slushy snow is not the best for walking, but this does not mean that you should simply stop going on long walks. On the other hand, if you are still not in the mood for a long walk, you should find some other way to add a few steps more every day – for example you could take the stairs instead of elevator or park a little further away from your office.
Try to exercise at home using DVDs, videos or video games
During winter months, depending on where you live, there might be days when it simply it is not safe to go outside. For those days you could find some exercises or some other ways to exercise. In last couple of years, the exercise-at-home DVDs are making a comeback and there are more and more videos on YouTube showing you how to do every exercise step-by-step. The good thing about exercising at home is that you don’t have to change or go anywhere.
Find an indoor sport that is ideal for you
In almost every city there is at least one local center for recreation and usually there are lots of different sports available in their own leagues – however, these leagues are not competitive and most of the people are participating for fun and recreation. Another good thing is that most of the people are not professional athletes so whatever your current fitness level – you will certainly fit in.
You could try swimming
Just imagine – snow falls outside and inside you are about to dive into a pool filled with warm water. Furthermore, swimming is a great way to remind you of those hot summer days and it is one of the best ways to stay in shape.
Join a training session or a class
Most of the gyms have started organizing classes or fitness sessions, ideal for people who are starting with exercising and also for those who want to stay in shape. Furthermore, you could hire a personal trainer if you are just starting with your fitness journey or you want to make sure that you get the most out of your time spent at the gym.
