In these busy times, most of us do not have enough time to think about ourselves, our health or even some of the important stuff that needs to be done. Most of the women have a lot on their plate and this usually means that we forget to take care of us, which is very important.
In the labyrinth of important things and occasions, everyone of us tend to get lost and because of that we tend to forget to do something that is maybe more important than some things we do every day.
It is really difficult to find top 5 things that most of the women forget to do or get done, but on the top of the list, according to a survey done just a few months ago, women in the United States and Canada tend to forget about:
– Flu shot
On the top of the list of the things that women forget to do is getting a flu shot. We do not have to talk about benefits and reasons why you should get a flu shot, but if you are afraid of the needle, do not forget that there is another way to get immunized against the flu – nasal spray. Whether you choose the trivalent type (traditional one) or the new quadrivalent type, the important thing is to get the protection your body needs.
– Blood pressure
Hypertension is now more common than ever (did you know that around 78 million people in the United States have hypertension?). As you probably already know, most of the strokes are caused by high blood pressure. In order to be sure that you don’t have high blood pressure, it would be a good idea to start checking your blood pressure regularly. You can do it at the doctor’s office or at your home (you just need the device that measures the blood pressure). Remember that normal blood pressure is 120/80.
You already know that stress is bad for your health, that is nothing new. However, did you know that women who were exposed to more than one sources of stress can develop dementia more easily than women who had a less stressful life? You can’t choose what is going to stress you or who or what is going to cause you problems, but, there is something that you can do – find a way to cope with that stress, without hurting your body.
– Vitamin D
Scientists and doctors are studying the deficiency of vitamin D for ages and there are still some things that they can’t figure out. However, they have come to the conclusion that women who have lower vitamin D levels can get pneumonia much easier than the women who have normal levels of vitamin D.
– Carbon monoxide
This is something that you wouldn’t expect on this list, but it is something that general public must be informed about. More than 20,000 people in the United States are treated every year because of the problems caused by inhaling carbon monoxide. Since this gas does not have scent or color, there is no way for you to know that you are being exposed to it, because of that experts recommend that you have at least one carbon monoxide detector installed in your home.
