3 simple tips to help you control calories

Every person that has ever tried controlling their calorie intake has found out that this is not something you can do easily. Experts now have even a new term for it “calorie awareness” – a situation in which a person counts calories and tries to limit their calorie intake to the amount their bodies exactly need. Still, counting calories and restricting your overall calorie intake is still one of the most effective ways to lose weight easily. It is much easier when you realize that you are in control of what you eat and how much your daily calorie intake really is.

On the other hand, until you have your diet under control, it can be quite hard to stay within the limits of your calorie intake. There are some simple things you can do every day just to help yourself with the control of your calorie intake.

First of all – learn portion control. The biggest problem, according to the experts, is that we have lost the the idea of what the correct portion size is and because of that we end up eating a lot more than one recommended serving – actually, experts claim that a standard portion in a restaurant often has two or three servings. Now, when you start measuring and controlling your intake you begin to realize how actually small servings are. You can do this by looking up portions on the Internet or if you buy processed foods – on label is written how much is actually one serving. For example, on average one piece of cheesecake has 700 calories! That is around 25 percent of recommended daily intake for men who weigh 160 pounds!

Second thing you can try is to substitute foods that you use for something healthier. More and more people are now starting cooking healthier versions of traditional recipes. For example, a healthier version of Buffalo Chicken Wraps appeared on social media last week and it went viral! That is good because it means that more and more people are becoming aware how unhealthy our food actually is. If you would like to start cooking healthier versions of your favorite dishes, you should invest some time into research – there are now thousands and thousands of food blogs – some are even dedicated to healthy food only. Nutritionists say that people who love to eat meat can lower their calorie intake with one simple change in the food preparation – instead of frying meat in a pan filled with oil – you can just grill it without oil.

Third and last tip is simple – stop eating food that is not part of a meal or a healthy snack. How many times you went back into the kitchen and grabbed two or three cookies? How many times you cleaned plates from leftovers of your kids? Don’t worry, we’ve all been there. Good news is that there is a simple solution for this – just stop mindless eating. When you reach out for that cookie – just ask yourself do you really need it?
